Alyssa Graybeal

Hello! I'm a writer and cartoonist who lives in Astoria, Oregon.

I use observational humor to explore the emotional landscape of chronic illness and disability, the connective tissue disorder Ehlers-Danlos syndrome in particular.

My book Floppy: Tales of a Genetic Freak of Nature at the End of the World (2023) won the Red Hen Nonfiction Book Award and was a finalist for the 2024 Oregon Book Award.

I have a Bachelor of Arts from McGill University and a Master's of Library and Information Studies (MLIS) from Dalhousie University, and I have two decades of experience as an editor, from academic proofreading to developmental editing for creative nonfiction. From 2018-2024, I was Managing Editor of the Collaborative Summer Library Program.

As of 2025, I work exclusively as a back-of-the-book indexer. If you're looking for my professional services, please follow the link below.
